Job Alert - Opening for Environmental Health Safety Specialist

Smeal - A REV Group Brand, located in Snyder, Nebraska, United States is looking to engage the services of an Environmental Health Specialist.

Role Overview:

 The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for the development, execution, and continual improvement of the organization’s EHS and sustainability programs, policies, and procedures that drive EHS Excellence. This role is responsible for cultivating a productive, sustainable, healthy and accident free workplace by promoting EHS Excellence and coordinating with managers and employees to drive a culture that embraces EHS and sustainability principles, leading industry practices, and governing regulations. Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist with the development and execution of programs, policies, and procedures that address occupational injury and illness prevention, risk management, compliance assurance, and environmental protection based on governing regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.), best practice standards (ANSI, NFPA, ACGIH, etc.), data analysis and trend tracking.

2. Ensure compliance with EHS regulations and requirements including monitoring, record keeping, and reporting. 

3. Develop and implement training programs that educate stakeholders on EHS policies, procedures, and company standards in order to manage risk related to EHS processes and metrics.

4. Provide EHS support to stakeholders including, but not limited to, incident investigations, ergonomic assessments and interpretation of EHS regulations.

5. Develop a communication plan that includes key messages and creative delivery methods to educate and raise awareness of EHS programs, polices, and procedures and their impact and relationship to the business and operations.

6. Promote active participation and ownership in the implementation of environmental, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics and related regulatory and educational programs.

7. Track EHS and sustainability metrics.

8. Conduct EHS assessments of the physical environment and EHS programs and processes to identify gaps and provide corrective/preventive action recommendations. 

9. Develop, deploy, and maintain various EHS plans including any associated activities such as establishing response/pollution prevention teams, conducting drills, and operational preparedness.

10. Coordinate waste management (non-hazardous, hazardous (RCRA), universal, etc.) activities including on-site waste accumulation and storage, inspections, training, recordkeeping/reporting, shipping, and disposal with licensed and reputable waste management vendors in accordance with all local, state and federal rules and regulations.

11. Participate as Safety Committee member.

12. Develop collaborative relationships with local leadership group, including supervisors, managers, directors, and senior site leaders to drive a culture of EHS Excellence

13. Represent the organization in community or industry EHS groups and programs.

14. Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.


1. Competency: A general knowledge of EHS standards and regulations (EPA, OSHA, CFR, NFPA, etc.) and basic Industrial hygiene techniques and principles.

4. 5. Written Communication – Demonstrates effective writing skills to convey information clearly and accurately to a variety of audiences; Effectively analyzes and presents data and metrics to provide business value and drive performance; Able to read and interpret written information.

6. Ethics - Treats people with respect; Keeps commitments; Develops positive relationships and builds trust with others; Works with integrity and ethically; Upholds organizational values.

7. Organizational Support - Follows policies and procedures; Completes administrative tasks accurately and timely; Supports organization's goals and values; Supports affirmative action and respects diversity.

8. Judgment - Displays willingness to make timely decisions using sound and accurate judgment; Provides reasoning and justification for decisions; Engages appropriate individuals in decision-making process;

9. Computer Skills: A working knowledge of various computer software and word processing programs such as spreadsheets and databases to include, but not limited to, Microsoft Office

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, safety sciences, environmental sciences, engineering or public health or 2-5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment. The employee is required to sit and talk and hear. Other physical requirements include: 1. Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 40#’s without assistance. 2. Ability to work from various squatting, kneeling or bending positions. 3. Ability to work with arms above head. 4. Ability to work from ladders or scaffolding. 5. Ability to stand or walk within the manufacturing environment for eight hours per day (minus specified breaks). 6. Ability to safely use specified hand, air, power tools, and machinery. 7. Ability to operate and understand the operation of all protective safety equipment in the area. 8. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. 9. Hand-Eye coordination. 10. Required to handle and dispose of hazardous waste. 11. Ability to work in 105-degree heat for excess of eight (8) hours per day. 12. Ability to work in noisy and dusty conditions. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
